We have received this beautiful video that documents the journey of hypnobubs mama, Verlie and her family; from a traumatic first birth with their son... to their second very positive birth. They made different choices in care (HBAC Home Birth After Cesarean) and prepared for this birth using the hypnobubs hypnobirthing online course. I think you will agree from the video, they did indeed have a very positive and empowering birth experience.
Hi everyone. I had a very traumatic birth with my son and had an unnecessary Caesarean. It took a lot to have another baby, but it was a wonderful pregnancy being cared for by an Independent Midwife. She suggested Hypnobirthing and we opted for the Hypnobubs Online Course as my husband is FIFO.
When the time came everything I had learned really did help. I had a 21hr active posterior labour and I believe my 'tool kit' got me through it and ultimately birth my baby girl into water at home. Thank you Melissa.

My husband and I started your hypnobirthing online course about two months before our little one was due. At 37 weeks we were told that Bub was not thriving and I would be induced at about 38 weeks. I had envisaged having a labour induction free so the news was not ideal. Our baby arrived naturally (induction free) at 37 weeks and 4 days.
We had spoken to our obstetrician about our wishes for the labour, namely to have a quiet dimmed room, limited intervention, minimal people in the room and to talk us through the steps he was taking. Our midwife kept commenting on how calm I was throughout the process. So calm that she believed the baby was not due for some hours. When the obstetrician came to see how dilated I was, he told me that bubs would arrive in a matter of minutes. He was correct and our little girl was welcomed into the world a few minutes later. We then spent hours having beautiful skin to skin contact before she was weighed etc.
If I could describe my labour in three...
With my first pregnancy I accepted that the nine months were to mentally and physically train for the marathon known as childbirth. I learnt about hynobirthing through a friend, she loaned me Marie Mongan’s book and my partner and I both read it. I used hypnobirthing techniques, specifically the affirmation tracks with my first birthing experience, no drugs, vaginal delivery with suction. With the aim of a similar drug free delivery, I incorporated hypnobirthing into my training regime with my second, although a lot harder to practice with a toddler also requiring attention!
By the third trimester my training involved listening to Melissa Spilsted’s hypnobirthing tracks (hypnobubs hypnobirthing online course); specifically the affirmations, light exercise and eating well, although that involved some chocolate.
My second child was later than anticipated, at forty weeks and five days my cervix was 2cm dilated and I requested a membrane sweep. After the sweep, my...
My husband and I did your online course leading into the arrival of our first baby. We live rurally and loved the flexibility of being able to do the online lessons at times that suited is and to re-watch things as we liked.
The things that were most salient for me were creating a peaceful birthing environment and understanding the relationship between fear and the body's hormonal and physical responses- the science behind the 'hippy/zen' stuff if you will! For my husband it was having a concrete list of helpful things to do and say to really be hands on and supportive. After watching the video of Alisha's hypnowaterbirth on one of the lessons, we began referring to her as a "hypnobirthing hero" the epitome of a serene calm birth which became my husband's somewhat tongue-in-cheek prompt of "channel Alisha" while I was practising my techniques!
On Fri evening 12/2/16 I began having fairly strong surges at 10 minutes apart which gradually progressed to 5 minutes apart at...
I had a natural birth thanks to hypnobubs on the 16/01/16. My first child, a little girl, named Willow. 3.5kgs (7.13lbs), 50cm long, 30cm HC & a 6.5hr labour which was all wrapped up by 3:27pm on a Saturday afternoon. Had to have active management in regards to my placenta, as it was my Doctor's standard practice. I didn't end up using the MP3s but the breathing techniques along with visualisations & anchoring was amazing. I only asked for pain relief & the bath when I was 9cm; however in the end no bath or pain relief was used, as I had gotten through it all just by using my breathing & visualisations! I lost myself a bit then by less than 5min later I had our beautiful (full head of hair) daughter in my arms.
Thank you so much Melissa. I have recommended you to EVERYONE. You helped eliminate all fear & were present in my subconscious throughout my entire birth reminding me that with every surge my baby was close to being in my arms.
Thank you for putting this course together; I found the tools and techniques invaluable when it came to labour and birth.
Mine took 12 hours, with half of it progressed at home in a calm environment, using the breathing and massage techniques learnt in the course. The other half happened in the hospital with only a little dose of gas to help me towards the end (I had back labour and could only stand up and sway for the whole time, but I don't think I could have done it without hypnobirthing).
Sasha was born on 14 Jan, delivered by two wonderful midwives, still in the amniotic sac! No tearing, and only two panadols later, we are all home and loving every minute of it!
I have already recommended the course to friends, and I hope they gain as much insight and power from it as I did.
I purchased the online course as I was travelling abroad for 6 and a half months of my pregnancy. I loved learning about the different breathing techniques - they tied in very well with my yoga practise. I also loved the hypnobirthing tracks - particularly the positive affirmations one. I found the course to be very empowering and definately had a huge impact on my experience.
Anyway a big thankyou for making this course available :) Here is my birth story...
I woke at 4.30 am on the 21st of January, after a night of strange dreams and unfamiliar feelings, I knew that you would be arriving soon. I could sense the shift, I quietly got up out of bed, trying not to wake your Dad and realised that the fluids protecting you in my tummy had started to leak. I was very excited and at the same time very calm, you were on your way and I treasured the moment. Your Dadda was stirring in bed and I told him we would meet you soon. He lay there smiling and wrapped his arms tightly...
I think hypnobirthing is a genuinely beautiful gift & still encourage whoever i can (strangers and all) to do it!
I have a 4yo girl, and for her birth I only heard of hypnobirth too late to do the course, so I bought the book and CD which very much resonated with me. Until now I THOUGHT I'd had a great birth. In the labouring phase I was very in control & focussed, & totally happy to do as the midwife suggested. while I preferred no drugs, I was open to them if I felt I required them. It wasn't that I felt no discomfort, but more I felt completely in control of it with breathing, & with both my births the thought of pain relief didn't even cross my mind! (And in both births I was much further along in labour than the midwives thought, even the second one who was a hypnobirth midwife!!)
However with my first birth the midwife told me I was 10cm dilated and I had to push. I told her I didn't feel the urge, and she said I needed to. Of course things slowed a little and...
I would like to thank you for your course, I have now had 3 children naturally and it was only with my third birth that I finally decided to seek help as I was not happy with my previous experiences.
My husband was very sceptical and I had a melt down when he told me he didn't see how it could help, as he was speaking my fears, but I have now made him a believer :)
He couldn't believe how calm I was with my third birth and although I cant say it was painless and far from easy, the breathing techniques and practice gave me a way to handle the pain.
I shocked the poor midwives and my husband when I had her in the shower (leaning over a birthing ball). I didn't realize she was coming till her head was coming out and they only just had time to put their gloves on and catch her; my husband almost had to!
